Spring is a great time of the year in New Mexico. Corrales greens up, and walking around the Village again becomes a pleasure. There is a new addition to an old favorite place to stroll and look around. The Coppertree Gallery is under the new management of Stacie Mader, it is in the Mercado de Maya on the west side of Corrales road and is looking good. Do come by and see the display of Southwestern style jewelry by Bruce Moffitt, and the many other interesting things that fill this nicely decorated shop. Stacie is Corrales folk, and if she happens to be in, tell her hello. If you are around and about in Corrales, another great place for a stop is Village Pizza. It is about half way through town on the east side and has great food, good beer and a lot of easy, informal ambiance. Congratulations to the owner Greg, they were noted under Best Pizza in the Alibi's "Readers Choice Restaurant Poll"! Fully deserved recognition too. Another neat place is Hanselmann Pottery, which is just down the road, again on the East side and right across the street from the old Ranchos de Corrales. Check out the extensive shop on the premises. They have world class casseroles, serving dishes and other exceptional stoneware cooking and decorative gear. Visit their website at: Hanselmann Pottery Website Fritz also has a new beer garden, with some fine brew which will be worth checking on a warm day. Hanselmann's is another great place for a creative browse. There is also still some space at the Artisan Center there for lease or rent. To see pictures of the property CLICK HERE There has been wine making in the Corrales area since the Spanish arrived, and there is some excellent wine being made now right here in Corrales. For some of the best, check out Milagro Vineyards and Winery up on West Ella for a tasting and a few bottles to go. To quote Albuquerque's "Crosswinds" newspaper "After tasting as many New Mexico wines as we have, we're convinced Milagro makes the best wines in this state." Leaving the city limits of Albuquerque to the South, visitors to Corrales feel that they have entered a simpler time, a time when rural values and open spaces gave the soul time to breath. Farms, orchards and horse paddocks are scattered throughout the community, and to the East, across the bosque of the Rio Grande, stand the mighty Sandia Mountains.

Corrales is a thriving town with a new Administration Center, a busy Library with over 20,000 volumes which was built by volunteer labor from the Village, and a new Senior Center. It has a dedicated Historical Society which seeks to preserve the Village's past, beginning with its first known inhabitants over 900 years ago. |
